About us

Our mission and vision

The mission of Project 6:8 is to provide food, clothing, love and the hope of Christ to those living on the streets of Minneapolis. We are a grass roots organization driven by volunteers whom provide the food, drinks and supplies needed on a weekly basis. We believe in 100% financial transparency and have very little overhead costs, allowing cash donations to go directly to help meet the physical needs of those we serve. Project 6:8 values relationships and strives to make personal, ongoing connections with our participants. Everyone has a story, and while we do not have resources to meet all their needs (such as housing, employment, medical care, etc), we are available to listen to their story without agenda or expectation.

Project 6:8 started 2006 with a group of six people willing to take a step of faith to serve the poor. Their first night they drove around in a van looking to pass out a hot meal to anyone who needed one and they ended up 'under the bridge'. They went back the next week, and the next, and every week since. Briefly, Project 6:8 merged with In Love, Word and Deed and this partnership allowed us to expand the family of participants and volunteers to include larger outings at the Harbor Lights Shelter and more recently at First Baptist Church. Recently, Project 6:8 split off officially from ILWD and has become its own 501-C3 non-profit corporation. This designation allows Project 6:8 to issue receipts for donated items.

Love Jesus and love the poor. It's that simple.

Do you have material resources? Has the Lord blessed you abundantly?

Project 6:8 is a grassroots organization, we rely solely on individuals like yourself to provide used men's clothing, blankets, tents, toiletries (new) to our homeless friends. Sure you can donate everything to a thrift store and they will resell everything for a profit. Not a bad deal, but donations to Project 6:8 go directly to the homeless. Think of it as a tax write-off in heaven. (We are also a 501-c3 non-profit)

Can you promise to love and to give unconditionally and without expectation?

Your work as a volunteer will be apprectiated by many, most of whom could never pay you back for your service. This selfless love makes standing out in the cold of the evening or heat of the day worth every minute of it.

We rely on many donors monthly and annually to cover our ongoing expenses.

Our costs are minimal, some storage space to store donations and a nice church to have Bible Study. There are no paid "volunteers" at Project6:8, just a solid grassroots foundation. We do occasionally have an event, like a Christmas party or Summer picnic. Your donations are used to fund all of these things, we can't do it without you.

We have been witnessing the love of Christ for 18+ years. His message of hope and compassion is our foundation.

As we give, we also receive...

Our Volunteers at Work

We could never serve this long as an outreach ministry without all of you!

What The Bible Says

We have heard it said if you pay this tithe, give this offering, buy this vial of holy oil, God will bless you and prosper you and make you rich. Many of those claims are Biblically unfounded. However, what is Biblical Truth is this: If you follow Jesus and serve the poor you are storing up treasure in Heaven as well as on this Earth. Your very life will become rich with mercy, kindness and justice. Check out these Bible verses, these are just a few of the many.

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

1 John 3:17

No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”

Luke 14:12-14

If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord — and he will repay you!

Proverbs 19:17

Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.

Luke 12:33
